Lake Michigan underwater and $400,000,000.00 in gold. Does it contain treasure beyond anyone's imagination? A treasure so vast that it's value if recovered could change the destiny of thousands of people? People who would inevitably become interlaced in it's distribution. This treasure, if found today, could be recovered in it's entirety in days or weeks. Not in years. Unlike Mel Fisher's enormous Florida treasure find of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha in the mid 1980's it would not take months or years to excavate the gold. There is no coral encrustation or mountains of sand burying the treasure. It cost Mel Fisher hundreds of thousands of dollars to uncover his gold once he found it. Was it worth it? Some say his personal worth is more than $100,000,000.00 dollars because of his find. Newspaper reports on his net worth are all over the place. How much he is really worth is anyone's guess. But, be assured that his income will continue on long after the gold he recovered has found numerous homes. The spin off from his find has lead to movies, television specials, books, endorsements and investments in other treasure hunts. How hard was it to find? It took over twenty years for Mr. Fisher to slowly but surly close in on the location where the treasure had laid undisturbed for centuries. Why did he find it when no one else could? Because he was the only one who staked his claim. Above all, he believed that the treasure was there. Many reporters called him a con artist and flimflam man. They said he was only taking money from investors to keep his shoestring dive business going. There were even hints of "salting the old mine". An article said he might have planted a few silver coins in just the right spots where his novice treasure hunter investors could find them. Of course that was all nonsense. "I'm sure Mr. Fisher remembered all the reporters that spoke poorly of him. I'm also sure that he invited all the Nay Sayers to the celebration party he had after finding his treasure.... Right". That's all fine but what does it have to do with the treasure of Poverty Island in Lake Michigan? There are many similarities that bind legends together. (1)The stories are over one hundred years old. (2) The legends emanate from different sources and different geographic locations at approximately the same time. (3) These sources all have many details that are exactly the same. Notice the word exactly. They also have many unsupported facts that complement each other. These facts may not have much foundation in the whole story but they help to fill in the valleys and edges when no other ancillary facts are available. The press has devoted hundreds of columns of negative and questioning articles. They have belittled and scorned the treasure hunters, including myself. Still these stories never seem to go away. Every ten, twenty or thirty years someone finds a new clue that revives the legend and it's off and running again. There is one outstanding proven fact about sunken treasure no can dispute. In the last 10 years over a Billion dollars in LOST SUNKEN TREASURE has been recovered. That's right ! ONE BILLION DOLLARS in GOLD has been found and recovered. Do you have any idea how much that is? Folks, if you were able to spend $1,000,000.00 a year on anything you wanted to without any thought of some return on your investment, it would take you 1000 years to spend it all. Those numbers may be exaggerated a little but if they were puffed up by 100,000,000 million, so what, I for one could live with that. OK, you have been patient and read all the above now you want to know how much? I have spent thirty-five years or so looking for this Treasure. I have also spent thousands of dollars on trips to Door County Wisconsin. I have frozen my butt off, and ,have gone without food or water for days while trapped on Poverty Island. I have driven the three hundred plus miles from Milwaukee to our entry point in Michigan until I know the tar bumps in the road by heart. To date I haven't found the key that will open the magic door. Hidden in a drawer or file cabinet somewhere is a piece of paper with the location of this vast treasure. A long forgotten piece of paper with vital information that will lead to the Poverty Island Treasure. A single piece of paper like the treasure document that had been filed in a Soviet office. The file that led to the $40,000,000 treasure sunk during World War II. One man's dream to find a most improbable horde of gold bullion. A yellowing dog-eared file that led to a joint venture between the Soviet Union, Great Britain and a man who wouldn't let the dream die. That said, I'm not going to give away the information for free. However you won't have to give up more then one good night of moderate entertainment to gain a twenty year jump on anyone who might be interested in this Treasure. A few years ago NBC's UNSOLVED MYSTERIES did a program about me and my search for the Poverty Island gold. It sparked renewed interest in the search by thousands of people. Unsolved Mysteries will rerun, rerun and run again the story of The Poverty Island Treasure. Each time sparking new interest in the search. Time is of the essence. There are twelve million people in the world right now that never knew about the treasure. But they do now! Stake your claim now. The complete package of information is only $29.95 plus $5.95 shipping and handling. That's right thirty five years of blood, sweat and tears for only the price of a cheap meal and a drink. Or a very cheap date. Here's what you will get.
(1) Copies of newspaper articles about the
Treasure of Poverty Island. CAUTION! One last thing before you invest your hard earned cash in the oil well speculation road-map of the twenty first century. Your friends will question you, other people will say you're dreaming and your spouse will think you are going through another phase. But one thing is for sure they will all listen. And they will dream of what they could do with all that money. But most will not do anything to make the dream happen. Even if you don't plan to start your own quest for the treasure, keep the Guide for your own personal library, you will have plenty of stories to tell. Ok, Ok, so why hasn't everyone been looking for the Poverty Island Treasure? Some have, but few know where to begin. And it's a lot more fun diving in the warm Caribbean than in the 55 to 75 degree water of Lake Michigan. This treasure isn't hidden under feet of coral encrustation. It lies in plain view with only an inch or less of sediment covering the very top of the chests. What is the value of this treasure? Approximately $400,000,000, depending on what year you are quoting the price of pure gold. I don't know of any diver who has dived more, had more articles written about him, been on more radio and television talk shows about Poverty Island than I have. The NBC Unsolved Mysteries Television show shot a program about myself and The Poverty Island Treasure. During the week long shoot some new and interesting facts came to light from the many people that wrote to the NBC Network and me. Most of the facts you may have read about Poverty Island were quoting something I said or did over the last thirty-five years. Many of the articles written are right on the money. But, many are puffed up by the reporter to give their story a little more edge than the previous one. I want you to know this. I have told all those reporters exactly what I wanted to tell them. Many times these reporters have tried to collect information from my friends. I'm never surprised at the lengths they will go to. You might ask, Why does the Poverty Island Treasure mystery endure? Is it pure belief or is it a very elaborate scheme to keep a tall tale alive? What are the benefits of moving the hoax forward? Hey! Don't look at me. According to one national newspaper I have spent over $100,000,00 looking for the treasure. "His financial reward is yet to be realized." I think that means I haven't found dime one until now. Well then, who is the big conspirator? Are the people of Door County Wisconsin supporting the legend so that tourism will thrive? Not hardly. Tourism on the Door County Peninsula has at least for the last ten years been growing. Housing has escalated because land is limited. The influx of weekend vacationers not only from Wisconsin, but also from Illinois is almost at capacity. At the present time the infusion of sightseers and vacationers is balanced to accommodations. I doubt any single event or article could change the already full calendar of tourist attractions. The Door County Chamber of Commerce has had generations of experience tweaking and fine tuning the natural wonders of nature. Why even in the fall it is almost impossible to get a room during the color change of the season. So where does the conspiracy lie? Maybe it is on the other side in the state of Michigan. The town of Escanaba, Michigan is one of the focal points in many of the early newspaper articles. Many of the dives made by this treasure hunter were based out of the Escanaba area. The proximity to Poverty Island made it a shorter boat trip to the dive site. Some treasure seekers would follow us when we would leave the Door County launch sites. As often as we changed the launch area they would appear out of nowhere. After the first nation wide news release in 1986 we traveled by land, just to avoid the dozens of would be tag-a-long treasure hunters. As I said earlier that brings us to the third possibility for bringing the Poverty Island Legend out of obscurity. What kind of reward have I received for the many hours of diving and the thousands of hours spent picking through countless bits of information. Nothing from the treasure itself but from spin off' like the fees paid to me by an Asian television station for filming my home built mini submarine. They said it reminded them of a Mazda RX7. Or the fees I received from NBC Unsolved Mysteries Group for shooting the underwater scenes used in their 200th Anniversary show. Who should believe there is a treasure to be found? Anyone who believes they have a chance of winning their state Lottery. The odds of winning Publishers Clearing House or Readers Digest is one in 195,000,000 million. People spend anywhere from $2.00 to $10.00 per week on tickets with those odds. Could you unlock the secret that has eluded so many for so long? The odds are you won't. But it is a hell of a lot more fun doing the research then scratching some black yucky stuff off of a card for $2.00. Now you can be part of the greatest treasure hunt in history. I will forward information to you. The facts from the thirty-five years I have spent searching for this king's ransom. Whether you are an armchair treasure hunter or a full-fledged treasure hunter you will find this mystery as intriguing as anything you have read. For the price of a modern day novel I will send you charts, drawings, interviews, and personal observations I have gathered over the years, including some of the newspaper articles that relate to the Treasure of Poverty Island. Included will be information that I have never given to the press. If you order during this first printing of the Poverty Island Treasure Hunters Guide I will enclose a FLOW CHART of dates, places, and names originally designed by a retired detective from the Milwaukee Police Department. An officer who's investigative training was invaluable in the early search criteria of our program. Well, that's my sales pitch. Now it's up to you, either you sit back and dream or you participate. "Doing, is the conclusive state of Day Dreaming". RB
